The WakeBolt sleep calculator suggests bedtimes and wake times using a simple cycle-based planning model. It cannot detect which sleep stage you are in, so treat the suggestions as useful planning options rather than exact cycle boundaries.

The gist

  • WakeBolt starts with a fifteen-minute estimate for falling asleep. That buffer is built into every calculation.
  • A full night of sleep commonly includes four to six sleep cycles. Cycle length varies; ninety minutes is a practical average.
  • Waking from deeper sleep can leave you feeling groggy, though sleep inertia has several possible causes.
  • Tell the calculator when you need to wake up or when you plan to sleep, and it steps in ninety-minute increments to offer practical estimates.

How the calculator picks a time

Give WakeBolt a wake-up time or a bedtime, and it applies a ninety-minute planning model. It also adds the fifteen-minute sleep-onset estimate so the result reflects time in bed, not only time asleep.

If you need to wake at 7:00 and you are aiming for five estimated cycles, the calculator counts back seven and a half hours, then applies the onset buffer. That gives a suggested bedtime around 11:15 the night before.

When the numbers are approximate

Cycle length changes with age, sleep pressure, circadian timing, caffeine, and other factors. The calculator does not track your actual sleep stages, so its suggestions are a starting point for planning, not a rule to follow rigidly.
